How To Start Weaning
WHAT IS WEANING?
It is the phase in which your baby starts eating solid food, like Iron-fortified baby cereals, vegetables and fruit purées. Weaning is also an opportunity for every baby to get used to eating healthy food, learning how to swallow and chew and learning how to use a spoon.
HEALTHY HABITS FOR LIFE
Weaning is an important milestone in your baby’s early development because it can help him form healthy eating habits for life. The best way to start weaning is to Introduce single vegetable flavours one-by-one right from the start without adding fruits as a sweetener. Your baby might make a funny face first, but keep trying, he’ll learn to start loving his food eventually!
HOW LONG DOES WEANING TAKE?
That depends on your baby. But usually it takes a month to go through the 5-step weaning plan. Take it slowly and don’t worry. You can always repeat steps if necessary. In the end, they’ll get used to new flavours and textures. Prepare yourself for lots of mess but lots of fun, too.
IS MY BABY READY?
If you notice any of the above signs, you may try to introduce purées. You should not start before 6 months, though. Please ask your paediatrician or our Careline team for more advice.
LET YOUR BABY TAKE THE LEAD
Baby-led weaning encourages your baby to eat independently right from the beginning. It gives him the freedom to explore new tastes and textures without the pressure to eat a set amount. Simply give him easy-to-grab finger food or a spoon full of purée.
DOES MY BABY STILL NEED MILK?
Yes. Milk is still important and your baby will need the same amount of milk for a while. But as he starts eating more solid food, he will naturally start drinking less breast milk or formula.
