common worries associated with breastfeeding

You'll recognise colic by a flushed face, clenched fists, and legs pulled up to the chest with long spells of loud crying, often after feeding. It’s very common and passes quickly. If it persists consult your doctor.

If your baby is crying before you breastfeed them, it will probably be because they’re hungry! As you get to know your baby better, you’ll begin to understand what each cry really means.

It’s really important to wind your baby properly after every breastfeed. All that sucking also means extra air intake, and this can make them feel uncomfortable. A few gentle taps on the back is all the need.

Weight loss

It’s natural for your baby to lose weight after birth. They’ll put it back on, don’t worry. Your doctor will monitor your baby’s weight, so you’ll know what’s the right weight for your baby.

Many babies bring up a little breast milk after feeding. It’s known as posseting. However, if they do this regularly and it’s more than just a little, they may have reflux, in which case you must speak with your doctor.

Diarrhea may be caused by a virus or it could be a feeding issue so it’s best to speak to your doctor about it.

A cold

Your baby might not want to close their mouths to feed. Just like us, if they have cold with a blocked-up nose it can make it difficult to breathe while feeding.

Food intolerances can be responsible for weight loss, Diarrhoea or difficulty feeding. If your family has a history of intolerance or allergy, it is important to consult your doctor before introducing anything other than breast milk
