It is very common for new mums and dads to worry about their baby’s digestive health. When your baby’s tummy has a healthy balance of good bacteria and friendly microbiota, it is more difficult for harmful bacteria to cause illness or tummy troubles. That being said, tummy upsets and stomach aches are common in infants due to immature stomach and intestines.
It is important for you to be able to recognize the symptoms and causes for the most common tummy upsets in order to reduce discomfort and soothe your baby’s distress.
WHAT CAUSES A BABY’S TUMMY TO BE UPSET ?

RECOGNISING COMMON TUMMY UPSETS
CONSTIPATIONIf your baby goes a few days or longer period without any bowel movement, he may be experiencing constipation. It’s advisable to ask the doctor if your baby has hard stool for a prolonged period, or if you see blood in his stool.
COLICIf your baby is crying excessively and uncontrollably at least 3 hours per day & for 3 or more days per week, it could be a sign of infant colic, which causes tummy pain or discomfort.
